Areitalm
3.6About
The hut is a working farm as much as a mountain shelter, with a simple restaurant serving traditional Tyrolean food and locally sourced ingredients. The kitchen operates daily during summer season (typically June to October), with limited opening on weekends in shoulder months. Areitalm offers beds for around 20 people in dormitory and private rooms. Facilities are basic but clean: running water, composting toilets, no shower. The hut runs on minimal power, so expect no Wi-Fi or phone signal. Staff can arrange packed lunches if you're continuing higher into the Zillertal or crossing to adjacent valleys.
Book directly by phone or email at least 4 weeks ahead during July and August, when weekend beds fill quickly. Weekdays outside school holidays are far quieter. The hut accepts cash only—no card payments. Arrive by 5pm to secure dinner and your bed for the night. The location works well as a base camp for day walks into the surrounding meadows or as an overnight stop on longer valley traverses heading toward the Zemmtal.
