Ebenbergalm

Ebenbergalm sits at 1,840m in the Zillertal, reached via the village of Zellbergeben. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from Zell am Ziller. A steeper variant from Schwendt covers 1,050m of vertical gain in 2 hours. The hut lies on the main route to Hochfeiler (3,510m) and serves as a basecamp for the Zillertal's mid-altitude ridges. The access trail is well-marked and passable from June through October; snow can block routes as late as May.
Ebenbergalm operates year-round with 80 beds split across two dormitories and a handful of double rooms. Meals focus on traditional Tyrolean cooking—expect rösti, schnitzel, and hearty soups. The hut draws its water from a spring; cell reception is patchy. Breakfast costs €10, three-course dinners €18. A small shop sells snacks and energy bars. The kitchen closes at 21:00. Dogs are welcome if announced in advance. The hut is managed by a private operator and maintains high standards despite its modest setting.
