Braunschweiger Hut

Braunschweiger Hut sits at 2,759m on the Zillertaler Alpen's northwest ridge, in the heart of the Zillertal valley. Reach it from the Mayrhofen valley floor via the Stillup valley. The standard approach takes 3–4 hours from Mayrhofen. From Mayrhofen town, take the Stillup-Straße into the valley, park at the Stillup Stausee car park, and head southeast on marked paths. The hut is also accessible from the Pfitschtal to the east or as part of longer ridge traverses. Winter access is limited and avalanche conditions control feasibility.
The hut accommodates around 60 people in simple dormitory rooms. The kitchen serves dinner and breakfast daily during the season. Expect simple refuge fare: hearty soups, stews, and bread. No hot showers. Toilets are basic. Water comes from the mountains. The hut operates June through October, closing outside summer season. DAV members get bedspace priority and discounted rates; non-members pay a supplement.
Book 8–10 weeks ahead for July and August; the hut fills quickly then. Email [email protected] or call to reserve. Phone lines work but can take time—email is more reliable. Specify bed count, arrival date, and any dietary needs. Confirm arrival time the day before. The hut accepts cash and card payment.
