Bremer Hut

Bremer Hütte sits at 2,413m on the Zillertal ridge in the Zillertal Alps, reached via the Zillertal valley near Mayrhofen. The standard approach takes 4–5 hours from Schlegeis Speicher (the reservoir at 1,763m). Most hikers park at Schlegeis and walk the reservoir road for 45 minutes, then climb steep terrain through meadows and scree. The hut also connects to multi-day routes across the Zillertal Alps and links easily to Greizer Hütte (2 hours south) for circuit hiking. Winter access is unreliable above 1,900m; check conditions before committing to a winter visit.
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and sleeps around 100 people in mixed dorms. Meals focus on Austrian mountain fare: hearty soups, schnitzel, and alpine cheese. Showers are available (small charge). WiFi works in common areas. Open year-round, though staffing and services reduce November–April. Water comes from mountain sources. Book meals when you arrive; the kitchen needs numbers early. The hut fills fastest in July and August, especially weekends.
Phone the hut directly to reserve: staff will hold beds for climbers arriving late. Book 4–8 weeks ahead for July–August weekends. The hut accepts cash and card. Arrival by mid-afternoon is sensible; the final push from Schlegeis is exposed and loose scree. Group bookings need 2 weeks' notice.
