Nürnberger Hut

The Nürnberger Hütte sits at 2,278m in the Zillertal Alps, roughly 4 hours' walk from the village of Mayrhofen. Start from the Stillupgrund car park and ascend the Stillup valley, following the marked trail to Schlegeisspeicher reservoir. From the dam, the path climbs steeply to the hut via switchbacks and rocky terrain. The approach is straightforward in summer but snow-covered from November through May.
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and offers 80 beds in mixed dormitory rooms and a handful of double rooms. Meals focus on traditional Tyrolean fare, with a full menu at dinner and packed lunches available for onward journeys. The small bar stocks local beers and schnapps. Water is piped from mountain springs. The hut sits just below the Hochfeiler massif, making it a practical base for scrambles to nearby peaks or as a stop on longer valley treks. Facilities include pit toilets and a washroom with cold running water; hot showers are available for a small charge.

Staff speak German and basic English. Expect to pay around €45–55 per night including a simple breakfast. The hut typically opens from late May through October, closing during heavy snow season.
