Buchsteinhütte

The Buchsteinhütte sits at 2,050m on the eastern slopes of the Buchstein in the Zillertal Alps. Reach it from Mayrhofen (610m) via the Zillertal valley. The standard route climbs through forest on good trail for 4-5 hours, gaining 1,440m elevation. Alternative access: start from Finkenberg (650m) in roughly the same time. The hut lies on the Zillertal High Route and serves as a solid mid-point for traverses heading east toward the Zemmschlucht canyon.
The OeAV-managed hut sleeps around 70 people in mixed dormitories and a handful of private rooms. Meals are substantial—expect good Austrian food and reliable coffee. Facilities include washbasins and simple toilets; showers are available for a small fee. The hut operates mid-June through late September, with weekends busier than weekdays. It closes for the short shoulder seasons. Water is piped from a nearby spring.

July weekends and school holidays fill fast. Midweek slots are usually available even in summer. The hut is straightforward to reach but the elevation gain is real—don't underestimate the 4-5 hour climb on a hot day.
