Hirschberghaus

Hirschberghaus sits at 1,511m in the Karwendel range, accessible from the Isar valley near Vöcklabruck. The approach takes 2.5 hours from the Plödern car park, climbing steadily through beech forest on a well-marked trail. You can also reach it in 3 hours from Benediktbeuern to the north. The hut serves as a solid base for ridge walks along the Hirschberg massif and day trips into the surrounding Karwendel peaks.
The hut offers 40 beds in shared rooms and a few doubles. The OeAV-affiliated facility runs a simple kitchen serving hot meals and packed lunches. Showers and toilets are available. Water comes from a spring. The hut opens year-round, though it closes Mondays and Tuesdays from November to March and operates with reduced staffing mid-week in shoulder seasons. Full opening is April to October.

July and August demand advance booking, particularly weekends; 2-3 weeks ahead is standard. Outside peak season, you can often secure a bed with a few days' notice.
