Edelweißhaus

Edelweißhaus sits at 1530m in the Zillertal valley, where the Zemmbach stream cuts through the Zillertaler Alpen. Reach it from the village of Mayrhofen by hiking up the forested valley floor. The walk takes about 2 hours from the valley and gains 400m steadily. The hut stands at the junction of several walking routes deeper into the Zillertal, making it a logical stop for hikers working upvalley toward higher terrain or the Berliner Hütte.
The DAV Sektion Stuttgart-managed hut has beds for around 30 guests in small dormitories and a few double rooms. It serves breakfast and three-course dinners. The kitchen handles vegetarian meals and special diets if you notify ahead. The hut runs year-round, though staffing may be limited in shoulder seasons. Toilet and shower facilities are basic but clean. The hut sits just above the reach of most day-walkers from the valley, so it holds a quiet feel despite reasonable accessibility.
Book directly by email or phone well ahead of summer weekends. July and August need reserving 4–6 weeks in advance. The hut fills on clear Saturdays. Spring and autumn see far fewer visitors. The DAV maintains a small climbing wall nearby and can point you toward scrambles and harder rock on the surrounding ridges if you need more than valley walks.
