About

Enzian-Hütte sits at 2,262m in the Zillertal Alps, reached via the Zillertal valley south of Mayrhofen. The standard approach is 3.5–4 hours from Mayrhofen town (653m), following the Zillertal trail and then climbing steeply through forest and alpine meadow. You can shorten this to 2.5 hours by taking the cable car from Mayrhofen to Ahornbahn (2,000m) and climbing from there. A winter approach via the Finkenberg route adds rough terrain but avoids some elevation gain. The hut serves as a base for traverses across the Zillertal ridge and access to Hochfeiler (3,510m) and surrounding 3,000m+ peaks.
The OeAV-managed hut has 60 beds split across multiple rooms, most with four to six places. Simple but well-maintained facilities include an open fireplace in the dining room and a small drying room. Meals are hearty Alpine fare: expect schnitzel, goulash, and pasta alongside vegetarian options. The kitchen provides packed lunches on request. Water comes from a mountain spring. The hut opens late May and closes mid-October, with variable winter staffing; check ahead if considering late autumn visits.
Book from April onwards for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email through the OeAV website. Expect to pay around €20–28 per night for a bed and €12–15 for dinner. Peak season (July–August) fills Thursday to Sunday; quieter periods offer better availability and more personal attention from the warden.
