Gaistalalm

Gaistalalm sits at 1,369m in the Ötztal valley, one of the most accessible hut bases in Tyrol. The valley runs north-south from Ötztal-Bahnhof station to Vent. Reach the hut in 1.5 to 2 hours from Längenfeld on foot, or from the upper Ötztal settlements if you're already higher. The approach follows clear valley trails with minimal elevation gain, making it suitable for warming up before bigger ridge traverses. The hut works well as a overnight stop between lower and higher Alpine huts, or as a base for day walks in the surrounding limestone slopes.
The hut offers 25 beds across simple double and multi-bed rooms. Meals are available: expect hearty Tyrolean cooking rather than fine dining. A small shop stocks basics like snacks and drinks. Water and toilet facilities are standard. The hut operates year-round. Phone ahead to confirm winter availability, as staff numbers drop in quieter months. The atmosphere is working-hut rather than tourist destination.
Book direct by email or phone. July and August are busy but not overwhelmed. The shoulder seasons (May-June, September-October) are quieter. For winter stays or off-season weekends, contact at least a week ahead. Payment is cash preferred, though card options may exist—confirm when you call. Groups should book 3 to 4 weeks in advance.
