Gamshütte

The Gamshütte sits at 1921m in the Zillertal, in the heart of the Ziller Valley hiking country. Most parties approach from Mayrhofen, a 2.5-hour walk following the valley trail and then ascending to the hut's location on the northern slopes. The route is well-marked and moderately graded. Winter access depends on snow conditions and is not reliable; visit between June and October.

The hut holds 38 beds in a mix of dormitories and smaller rooms. The DAV manages it, so members receive a standard discount on overnight rates. The kitchen serves full meals at lunch and dinner; bring snacks for the day or eat before arrival. Water is available directly from the mountain supply. Flush toilets are standard, but there are no showers—plan to wash at your guesthouse in the valley. The hut works well as a base for day walks in the surrounding meadows or as a stopping point on longer routes through the Zillertal.

Book by phone with the hut directly. July and August fill quickly, especially weekends; aim to call 4–6 weeks ahead during peak season. Shoulder months (June, September, early October) are quieter and still offer reliable weather for walking. The hut can accommodate larger groups if notified in advance, though availability remains limited during summer weeks.
