Gaudeamushütte

The Gaudeamushütte sits at 1,263m in the Zillertal valley in Tyrol. The hut is reached on foot from Mayrhofen in the Zillertal, with a hiking time of around 2–3 hours depending on your starting point and fitness. The approach climbs steadily through mixed forest and opens onto alpine meadows as you gain elevation. The hut works well as a base for day hikes across the surrounding Zillertal peaks and as a waypoint on longer valley traverses.

The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and operates year-round, though you should confirm opening times before traveling in winter. It offers dormitory beds and a small number of private rooms, with capacity for around 40–50 guests. The kitchen serves three meals daily—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—and provides packed lunches on request. Facilities include shower access, a dining room, and a small bar. The hut caters to hikers and mountain bikers, with less technical terrain than higher alpine huts, making it suitable for families and moderate fitness levels.

Book direct by email or phone at least 4 weeks ahead, especially for weekends and school holiday periods. The hut is busiest in July and August. July weekends fill quickly; book 8 weeks ahead for guaranteed bed availability. Check the OeAV website or contact the hut directly for current rates, meal options, and any seasonal closures.
