Haus Schattwald

Haus Schattwald sits at 1100m in the Schattwald valley near Tannheim in the Ötztal region of Tyrol. The hut is accessible by road from the valley floor, making it a straightforward approach for hikers wanting to base themselves for local walking routes. It's managed by DAV Sektion Geislingen/Steige, so DAV members receive standard hut discounts.
The hut serves as a comfortable base for day hikes in the surrounding limestone terrain. It offers meals and basic alpine hut accommodation. WiFi is available, which is unusual at this elevation—useful if you need to check conditions or sort logistics. The elevation and valley location mean the hut has a longer operating season than higher alpine huts, though you should confirm specific dates before planning your trip.
