Kasseler Hut

The Kasseler Hütte sits at 2,177m in the Zillertal Alps, serving as a solid base for hiking across the Ziller Valley's higher terrain. Reach it from Mayrhofen in roughly 4–5 hours on foot, following the valley trail up to the hut. The route is straightforward but gains steady elevation. Winter access depends on snow conditions; check conditions locally before attempting an approach in colder months.
The DAV-managed hut holds 95 beds across mixed dorm and private rooms. Meals are served daily—order your dinner when you arrive so the kitchen can plan portions. Showers are available, a rarity at this elevation that makes the hut popular with multi-day trekkers. The hut opens year-round but staff presence and meal service vary with seasons; verify opening dates before heading up. Cell reception is intermittent.
Book directly by phone well ahead for July and August—these months fill 6–8 weeks in advance. Shoulder seasons (June and September) are more flexible and often reward you with better weather windows and fewer crowds. Solo walkers and smaller groups find spots more easily outside peak summer.
