Kieler Wetterhütte
1.0About
Kieler Wetterhütte sits at 2,800m in the Albula Alps of Graubünden, accessible from the Prättigau valley. Most parties approach via the Wöster Joch (2,744m) from Schesaplana or from Säntis. Count on 4–5 hours from valley trailheads. The hut itself is small and remote, suited to experienced mountaineers rather than casual hikers. Kieler Wetterhütte is managed by the DAV Sektion Kiel (German Alpine Club, Kiel section) and operates as a basic mountain shelter. It sleeps 3 people in simple dormitory accommodation. There is no running water, shower, or flush toilet; bring sufficient water and expect outhouse facilities. The hut is staffed seasonally in summer and early autumn. Meals are not provided; bring all food. This hut works best as a staging point for mountaineering objectives in the surrounding peaks or as an emergency shelter. Book directly with DAV Sektion Kiel well in advance. July and August are crowded; aim for June or September if possible. Verify opening dates before travel, as alpine weather and snow cover dictate the season.
