Mohaalm

Mohaalm sits at 1,410m in the Ötztal valley, a straightforward base for day hikes across the northern slopes of the Ötz Alps. Reach it from Ötz village (590m) via the Hochötz forestry road, a 4km walk uphill taking 1.5 hours. In summer, a shuttle bus runs from Ötz; check locally for current schedules. The hut is also accessible from hiking trails connecting to other Ötztal routes, making it useful as a transit stop on longer valley traverses.

Mohaalm operates as a simple farm hut run by locals, not a managed mountain hut. It offers basic accommodation and serves straightforward food—typically schnitzel, soup, and local cheese. Expect around 20-30 beds in dormitory-style rooms. Water is plentiful. Opening hours depend on farming operations; the hut closes during winter months (typically November to April). This is not a destination hut but a practical overnight option if you're working the Ötztal circuit.

Book ahead during July and August by calling the hut directly or asking Ötz tourist information for current contact details. The hut sometimes closes for farm work mid-week, so confirm availability when booking. No online system operates here—direct contact by phone is necessary. Arrive by early evening; the hut stops serving dinner after 19:00.
