Passauer Hut

Passauer Hütte sits at 2,051m in the Zillertal Alps, roughly midway between the Zillertal valley floor and higher ridge terrain. Reach it from Mayrhofen via the Finsingtal valley on a marked trail; allow 2.5 to 3 hours from the carpark at Gründel. The route gains 900m steadily through forest and alpine meadow. Horse-drawn transport sometimes operates along the lower valley in summer—ask locally. Winter access becomes unreliable above 1,600m depending on snow conditions.
The hut sleeps around 40 people in mixed dorms and a few private rooms. Meals are available for residents and day visitors; bring cash as card payments aren't guaranteed. Hot showers are on-site—a rarity at this elevation and a genuine asset after multi-day touring. The facility operates from late May through September, with a skeleton crew only in shoulder months. The Passauer Hut works well as a stage hut on longer ridge traverses heading toward the Zillertaler Höhenweg or as a base for day walks into the Finsingtal.
Book via the Ötztal-Zillertal tourist office or contact the hut directly. July and August weekends fill quickly; aim to telephone 1 to 2 weeks ahead for midsummer dates. The hut closes Mondays and Tuesdays outside peak season, so check their calendar before planning your arrival.
