Knappenstube
2.5About
Knappenstube is a simple, working hut run by the Zillertal Alpine Club. It has 24 beds split across two dormitories and serves as a base for mountain guides operating in the area. The kitchen provides hot meals at lunch and dinner; book meals when you reserve. Water comes from a spring on the property. The hut closes November through April. Shower facilities are basic but functional. The setting is exposed; weather can change fast on the ridge.
Book 3–4 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the Zillertal Alpine Club directly via their website or phone to confirm availability and meal options. Arrive early on weekends as the hut fills with day-hikers using the cable car. Half-board (bed plus dinner and breakfast) is standard. The hut doesn't accept credit cards—bring cash in euros.
