Rastkogelhütte

Rastkogelhütte sits at 2,124m on the eastern side of the Stubaier Alpen, above the Ötztal. Reach it from the valley village of Ötz in roughly 3–4 hours on foot. The approach climbs through alpine meadows and sparse larch forest with steady gradient. The hut serves as a solid base for day walks across the surrounding ridges and peaks. Summer access is straightforward; winter ascents require avalanche awareness and often snowshoes.
The DAV-managed hut offers around 40 beds split between private rooms and dormitories. Meals focus on Austrian alpine fare—hearty soups, meat dishes, and good bread. The kitchen produces most food on-site. Tap water is reliable. There is no WiFi. The hut operates June through September reliably; shoulder seasons depend on snow conditions and staffing. Showers and toilets are standard alpine standard—functional, not luxurious.
Book direct by phone or email at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. July is busiest. The hut accepts cash and card payments. Arrive with a headtorch—the final 90 minutes involve some steep sections and poor light makes navigation harder. DAV members get discounted rates; membership in any Alpine club affiliated with the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (IFMF) qualifies.
