Ritzaualm

Ritzaualm sits at 1,161m in the Zillertal, a 45-minute walk from the village of Fügen. The hut lies on the broad hiking network between the Zillertal and Pitztal valleys, making it a logical stop on longer traverses or a base for day walks in the surrounding meadows and forest. Access is straightforward from Fügen: follow the marked trail uphill through mixed woodland, gaining roughly 400m elevation steadily but never steeply. This is low-altitude hiking country—accessible year-round but best between May and October when the hut operates fully.
Ritzaualm is an Alm (alpine pasture hut) rather than a mountain refuge, so expect simple accommodation and hearty food rather than luxury. The hut sleeps roughly 30 people in basic dormitory rooms. Meals focus on regional specialties: Kasnocken, Speck, fresh dairy. The kitchen serves lunch and dinner; phone ahead to confirm availability on quieter days. A small shop sells basics. There's no electricity or running water in some sections, which is part of the appeal—this is traditional alpine farming country, not developed tourism infrastructure.
Book by phone or email at least two weeks ahead, especially for weekends in summer. July and August bring weekend crowds but midweek stays remain manageable. The hut operates year-round but facilities are minimal in winter; confirm opening status before visiting November through April.
