Rüsselsheimer Hut

Rüsselsheimer Hütte sits at 2,323m in the Zillertal Alps, on the main approach to the Zillertaler Hochgebirgsstraße and peaks around the Gefrorene Wand. Most parties reach it from the Mayrhofen side via Stillebach Alm in 3.5 to 4 hours. The approach is well-marked and steady rather than steep. Some climbers also access it from the Zamsergrund valley to the south, though this is less common.

The hut holds 80 beds across multiple rooms. The DAV Sektion Rüsselsheim runs it with a focus on comfort for multi-day tours. Showers are available—rare for Alpine huts above 2,300m. The kitchen serves standard Alpine fare: hearty suppers, breakfast, and packed lunches. The hut typically opens mid-June and closes mid-October, though exact dates vary by year. Winter access is not guaranteed.

Book directly with the hut by telephone or email at least 6 weeks ahead for July and August. Weekends fill quickly in peak season. The hut prefers email during quieter months. Arrive early on the approach if you're arriving without a reservation, especially on Saturdays. The Stillebach approach can be crowded during school holidays.
