Seewaldhütte

Seewaldhütte sits at 1582m in the Rofan Mountains above the Achensee, in the heart of Tyrol's lake district. The hut is a 2.5-hour walk from the Maurach gondola station (take the cable car from the north end of the Achensee). From the top station at 1904m, descend briefly then contour west into the Seewald cirque. Alternatively, approach from Achenkirch via the Rofan Steig in 3.5 hours, a steeper but more direct route. The hut also sits on the main Rofan ridgeline trail, making it a logical stop for multi-day traverse hikers.
The DAV Sektion Achensee runs this 100-bed mountain hut as a solid mid-mountain base. Half-board is standard: they serve fresh meals, typically Tyrolean standards with vegetarian options. Beds are in 2- to 8-person rooms. The hut has a public restaurant area, so day visitors are welcome. There's no wi-fi or phone signal. Water comes from the nearby Seewaldbrunnen spring. The hut operates year-round except November and early December, though winter access is ski or snowshoe only—check conditions before going.

June, September, and early October have far shorter notice requirements—often just 2-3 weeks. Email gets a faster response than calling.
