About

Siegerlandhütte sits at 2,710m in the Zillertal Alps, accessed via the Zillertal valley in central Tyrol. The standard approach is from Mayrhofen: hike 2 hours northeast through the Zillergrund to Finstertaler Alm, then 2 hours further up steep meadow and scree to the hut. Allow 4–4.5 hours total from the valley floor. The route is well marked but exposed on the final approach. The hut lies on the main ridge between the Zillertal and Ötztal, making it a logical base for high traverses and peak bagging in this sector.

The hut sleeps around 40 people in mixed dorms and a handful of private rooms. The OeAV-affiliated operation serves three meals daily. Dinner is a filling stew or similar; breakfast and packed lunches are basic but adequate. Water comes from the glacier-fed stream nearby. The toilet block is functional. There's no shower. The hut opens from mid-June through September, weather dependent. Expect it to close in late August if snow conditions deteriorate early.

Book from April onwards for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email—online booking isn't always reliable due to patchy mobile signal. July and August Saturdays fill completely. Arrive by 4pm to secure supper. The hut lies on the Zillertal Rucksack Route, so expect crowds on high-season Thursdays and Fridays.
