About
Hildesheimer Hütte sits at 2,900m on the Zillertaler Hochalpen in the Zillertal, southeastern Tyrol. Approach from Mayrhofen via the Zillertal. Most hikers reach the hut in 4–5 hours from the valley. The standard route climbs through alpine meadow and scree to the hut's position on high open terrain. Winter access is difficult; confirm conditions before traveling outside summer months.
The hut is managed by DAV Sektion Hildesheim and sleeps around 60 people in mixed dormitories. It serves breakfast and packed lunches; dinner is available on request. The kitchen can handle vegetarian meals and basic dietary requirements if you notify ahead. Water comes from snowmelt and springs. The hut has no shower or bathing facilities. It opens from June through September, with extended weekends in May and October depending on snow cover. The hut sits above the tree line and faces exposure to rapid weather changes; afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer.
Book directly with the hut by phone (contact via DAV Sektion Hildesheim) or email. July and August fill 6–8 weeks ahead; book by mid-May for summer weekends. The hut accepts walk-ins outside peak season but half-board availability cannot be guaranteed. Members of DAV, OeAV, or affiliated Alpine clubs get priority booking and slightly reduced rates. Bring a sleeping liner; hut blankets are provided.
