Sigrizalm

Sigrizalm sits at 1,160m in the Benediktenwand massif, roughly 40km south of Munich. The easiest approach runs 2.5 hours from Benediktbeuren via the Pläner Alm track. From Jachenau to the south, allow 3 hours past the Plödern Alm. Either route brings you through open Alpine pasture—straightforward hiking but exposed to weather. The hut works best as a base for climbing or as a waypoint on longer traverses of the Benediktenwand range.
The hut holds around 80 beds across multiple rooms. Meals are simple and reliable: half-board or packed lunches for onward hiking. Cold water only; pit toilets. The season runs May through October, with weekends busy year-round and July–August requiring advance notice. DAV Waakirchen manages it as a working mountain hut, not a resort, so expect basic Alpine accommodation. Mobile signal is marginal.
Book direct with DAV Waakirchen (phone or email preferred—check their website for current details). July and August weekends fill 6–8 weeks ahead. Shoulder season (May, June, September, October) has more flexibility. Half-board rates cost roughly €50–65 per person per night; non-members pay a small DAV surcharge. Arrive by mid-afternoon; the kitchen stops serving around 7 p.m.
