Uttendorfer Hochsonnbergalm sits at 1908m on the Hochsonnberg in the Zillertal, a working Alpine dairy farm that doubles as a mountain hut. The approach from Uttendorf village takes 1.5 hours of steady climbing through mixed forest and pasture. You can also reach it in 2 hours from the Zillertal floor starting at Mayrhofen. The hut is accessible year-round on foot, though winter routes may require caution depending on snow cover. The location works well as a base for ridge walking across the eastern Zillertal highlands or as a day-hut stop on longer valley traverses.
The hut operates year-round and sleeps around 20 people in simple dormitory rooms with shared bathrooms. Half-board (bed, dinner, breakfast) costs €40–50 per person. The kitchen serves traditional Tyrolean fare including fresh dairy products from the farm. Lunch packs are available if you're heading out early. Basic supplies and hot drinks are sold.
