Wildseeloderhaus

Wildseeloderhaus sits at 1,854m in the Zillertal valley south of Mayrhofen. Reach it from Mayrhofen village (600m) via the Zillergrund valley on a marked trail that takes 4-5 hours. The approach follows the Ziller River upstream through forest before climbing steadily to the hut. In summer, a mountain bike or electric bike cuts the lower section significantly. The hut is accessible year-round by road in winter via Zell am Ziller, though snow conditions on higher approaches vary. Most hikers approach from Mayrhofen during the hiking season.
The hut has 30 beds split across small rooms and is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV). It operates as a base for day hikes to Wildsee lake, the Floitenkees glacier, and ridges above the Zillergrund. Meals are served for residents and day visitors. Hot showers and drying rooms are available. The hut is open year-round, though staffing is minimal in winter—check ahead for winter stays. Book well ahead for July and August, especially weekends. Contact the hut 6-8 weeks before arrival during summer. Email is reliable for planning but phone calls (speaking German is helpful) get faster responses for booking queries. The hut fills quickly during school holidays and in good weather weekends.
