Willersalpe

Willersalpe sits at 1456m in the Zillertal valley, about 90 minutes' walk above Mayrhofen. The approach is straightforward: hike south from Mayrhofen village toward the Zillertal National Park boundary, following marked paths that gain roughly 400m elevation. The trail is well-trodden and non-technical, making it accessible to fit walkers. From Willersalpe, you can push higher into the Ziller Alps for longer day hikes, or use the hut as a resting point on multi-day routes through the region.
Willersalpe is a modest working mountain hut run by local farmers. It operates year-round and offers basic dormitory accommodation with flush toilets—a practical upgrade at this elevation. The hut serves straightforward food: soups, stews, and schnitzel. Portions are generous. Capacity is small, typically under 50 beds. The building is functional rather than luxurious, and the real appeal lies in its location on quieter trails away from the busiest Zillertal tourism corridors.
