Braunberghütte

Braunberghütte sits at 902m in the Pyhrn-Priel region of Upper Austria, making it a straightforward base for day hikes and ridge walks in the northern limestone Alps. The hut is accessible from the Spital am Pyhrn valley floor via a 2–2.5 hour ascent. Approach routes exist from multiple directions; the most direct follows established hiking paths through mixed forest. The hut serves hikers and mountaineers exploring the Pyhrn-Priel massif, a compact range with good trail infrastructure but fewer crowds than the higher Austrian ranges to the south.
The hut provides around 40–50 beds in shared and smaller rooms. Meals include a full evening menu and breakfast, with packed lunches available on request. Water is reliable; electricity exists. The hut operates year-round but is quietest in winter—call ahead if visiting November to March. During summer months (June to September) and weekends the hut runs at capacity. The kitchen can accommodate some dietary requirements if notified in advance.
Book directly by phone. For July and August weekends, ring 4–6 weeks ahead. Outside peak season, 1–2 weeks' notice suffices. The OeAV (Austrian Alpine Club) maintains the hut and publishes maps and route descriptions for the surrounding peaks.
