Buchberg Hut

Buchberg Hütte sits at 1,296m in the Sengsengebirge massif, a limestone range south of Steyr in Upper Austria. The standard approach from Reichraming village takes 2 to 2.5 hours on marked trails through beech forest. From the south, Molln offers an alternative route of similar length. The hut serves as a base for ridge walks and scrambles across the Sengsengebirge, which offers far fewer crowds than the Austrian limestone Alps to the east.
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and operates year-round, though staffing is seasonal. It has around 30 beds split between simple dormitories and a few double rooms. Half-board includes a hearty dinner and breakfast. The kitchen provides packed lunches. Toilet facilities are basic but adequate. There's a small bar with local beer. No shower onsite—cold water only.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead for weekends and public holidays, especially from May to October. July and August can be busy, particularly on Saturdays. Weekday visits in spring and autumn guarantee space and a quieter experience. The hut accepts cash and bank transfer; card payment options are limited, so confirm when you book.
