Mollner Hut

Mollner Hütte sits at 1,532m on the Hochsalm plateau in the Sengsengebirge, a limestone range southeast of Steyr. Reach it in 3 hours from Molln village via the marked trail through beech forest and alpine meadow. The final approach crosses open terrain with views toward the Ennstal valley. Winter access requires snowshoes or skis from mid-December through March.
The hut operates year-round and sleeps 40 people across mixed dormitories and a few double rooms. Meals are straightforward: soup, meat, vegetables, and local cheese. The hut has no shower; washing facilities are basic. The terrace faces north toward forested slopes. This is working hut territory—expect hikers in hiking boots, not resort comfort. Stock water from the spring outside; the kitchen tap is for cooking only.
Book directly by phone or the OeAV website (Mollner Hütte is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club). July and August weekends fill quickly; reserve 4-6 weeks ahead for summer. Winter weekdays see far fewer visitors. The hut closes for 2-3 weeks in late April or early May for maintenance. Phone ahead if you arrive outside standard summer opening hours.
