Rifugio Meira Garneri

Rifugio Meira Garneri stands at 1,810m on the Italian side of the Alps, accessible from the Val d'Aosta region. Most hikers approach from the Dora Baltea valley via marked trails that take 3–4 hours depending on your starting point. The hut sits on established hiking routes connecting higher passes and peaks in the Gran Paradiso massif area. Summer access is straightforward; winter conditions can close approaches without specialist kit.
The rifugio offers 40–50 beds in shared dormitories and a small number of private rooms. Half-board is standard (dinner and breakfast included); packed lunches are available for the next day's hiking. The kitchen serves straightforward mountain food—expect pasta, polenta, and hearty soups rather than elaborate cooking. The hut stocks basic supplies and serves drinks throughout the day. Open June to September under normal snow conditions; weekends fill quickly during July and August.
