Locanda Palent (Posto Tappa)

Locanda Palent sits at 1,541m in the Alpi Marittime, accessible via the Val Gesso from Entracque. The approach takes 2.5–3 hours on foot from the village, following a well-marked mule track through forest and pasture. The hut serves as a waypoint on the Alta Via 1 and other long-distance routes crossing the Maritim range. Summer access is straightforward; winter requires avalanche awareness and mountaineering skills.

The lodge sleeps around 20 people in mixed dormitories and a handful of private rooms. Meals are hearty and based on what's available locally—expect pasta, polenta, and vegetables rather than fine dining. Hot showers and composting toilets are standard. The hut operates year-round but is busiest July–September and during winter ski-touring season. Book your meal the night before if you want anything specific. English is spoken but Italian dominates; a phrasebook helps. The guardian lives on-site and manages the place with minimal fuss.
