Cabin de Bressenge

Cabane de Bressenge sits at 1,973m in the Alpes-Maritimes, deep in the limestone plateau country above the Vésubie valley. The approach takes 2 hours from the Promenade des Anglais trailhead near Saint-Martin-Vésubie. You climb steadily through beech forest, then emerge onto open karst terrain. The final section crosses bare rock and low scrub to reach the cabin. The setting is remote and exposed—weather changes quickly here.
The cabin is small and basic: five beds in a single room, no electricity, water from a cistern, chemical toilet. There is a stove for heating. The caretaker provides simple meals (dinner and breakfast) if booked in advance. The cabin operates year-round but winter access is serious mountaineering terrain. Spring through autumn are the practical seasons for most hikers. This is a working mountain refuge for people doing alpine traverses and scrambling, not a hostel.
Contact the hut directly well ahead—it has no internet booking system and the caretaker manages visits by phone or post. Book at least two weeks before in summer. July and August draw the most traffic. The cabin is managed by local alpinists and maintains a low profile. Expect to carry everything you need except food; water supply is unreliable in dry seasons.
