Refuge de Gialorgues
2.9About
The refuge is small and austere, with 12 beds across basic dormitories. The FFCAM caretaker prepares meals from stored provisions—expect hearty mountain food, not restaurant cooking. Water comes from snowmelt and mountain springs. There is no electricity, heating beyond a wood stove, or shower facilities. The refuge opens mid-June through September only, depending on snow melt and conditions. It closes entirely in winter.
Book through the FFCAM directly or via the Club Alpin Français network. Contact the Maison du Parc in Saint-Martin-Vésubie to confirm current opening dates and caretaker presence, as staffing at remote huts is weather-dependent. July and August are busiest; aim to book 2–3 months ahead for these months. Bring a headtorch, warm layers, and all personal kit—resupply options do not exist above the valley.
