Rifugio Soria Ellena

Rifugio Soria Ellena sits at 1840m in the Alpes-Maritimes, deep in the Parc National du Mercantour. The hut is accessible from the Vallée de la Roya via a hiking approach of around 2–3 hours depending on your start point. This is Italian-side alpinism—the ridge lines here push into high altitude terrain that rewards careful preparation. The hut's position makes it a logical base for traversing the Mercantour massif or pushing toward the Italian border peaks.
The rifugio operates as a mountain refuge with basic dormitory accommodation and a small number of private rooms. Meals are available on-site; book dinner and breakfast in advance. Water comes from mountain springs. The hut is staffed during the main hiking season (June through September); winter closures are standard. Expect simple, clean conditions rather than hotel comfort—this is a working mountain hut used by locals and serious trekkers alike.
