Chalet de la Vuagère

Chalet de la Vuagère sits at 1,200m in the Haute-Savoie, serving hikers working the lower valleys and forested slopes of the northern French Alps. Access is via the village of Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, a 2-hour walk from the roadhead. The approach follows forest trails and opens onto pastureland where the chalet sits. Day hikers can reach nearby peaks and lac circuits in 3–5 hours from the hut. Winter access depends on snow cover; the standard season runs June to September.
The FFCAM-managed chalet offers 30 beds in simple dorms and small rooms. Meals are served daily: half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard, packed lunches available. Water is reliable but the hut relies on gas for heating and cooking. Showers are available. The chalet operates as a proper refuge rather than a bivouac—expect communal dining and a working mountain atmosphere.
Contact the FFCAM directly by phone to check current availability and rates; summer weekends fill 4–6 weeks ahead. July and August draw the most traffic. The hut takes reservations but walks-in are accepted if space allows, though don't rely on it during peak season. Arrive by early afternoon to secure a bed and eat with the group.
