Le Grillet CAS

Le Grillet sits at 2,002m in the Chaînes de Belledonne range, east of Grenoble. The hut lies in Parc National de la Vanoise territory and serves as a base for ridge traverses and peak ascents across the massif. Reach it from the village of Albiez-Montrond via the GR55 long-distance trail: allow 4–5 hours climbing steadily through spruce forest and alpine pasture to the hut. You can also approach from Valloire over the Col de la Loze (2,641m), though this route takes 5–6 hours and involves more elevation gain. Winter access is restricted and requires mountaineering experience.
The hut operates year-round and holds 50 beds in 6–8 person rooms. Meals are served family-style at dinner and breakfast is included with overnight stays. You'll find basic hot showers, no wifi, and a wood-fired stove in the communal area. The hut is unmanned outside summer months (June–September), so contact the guardian in advance if you plan a shoulder-season visit. Cooking facilities are minimal; bring a stove if you need hot water outside meal times.
Book directly with the guardian (contact details available through the CAS website or local tourist information) at least 3 weeks ahead for July and August. September and early June are quieter and still offer reliable access. Notify the hut if you're arriving outside posted hours. The hut sits on a well-used ski-touring route, so winter weekends fill quickly among the mountaineering crowd.
