Refuge de la Pierre à Bérard sits at 1,922m in the Chaîne du Reposoir, above the Vallée de l'Arve in Haute-Savoie. The main approach is from the village of Taninge (accessible by car or bus), taking the GR5 trail eastward for 3 hours through beech forest and alpine meadow to reach the hut. Alternative approaches exist from the Col de la Forclaz du Reposoir and from Passy, all reasonable day-hike distances. The hut makes a solid base for ridge walks along the Chaîne du Reposoir and for access to Mont Buron and other 2,000m summits in the range.
The refuge operates year-round and holds 40 beds in simple dormitory rooms. Half-board (demi-pension) is standard—evening meal and breakfast included. The kitchen serves straightforward mountain food using local suppliers where possible. Showers and toilets are basic but functional. Winter access depends on snow conditions and is not guaranteed; phone ahead to confirm the hut is staffed if you're planning a cold-season visit. The hut is managed according to FFCAM standards and welcomes both day-visitors and overnight guests.
Book directly by email or phone 2–3 weeks ahead for weekends and July–August. The hut fills quickly on holiday weeks. Weekday availability is usually better. Pay on arrival by cash or card.
