Refuge de la Vogealle

Refuge de la Vogealle sits at 1,902m in Haute-Savoie, accessible via the Val d'Illiez approach from Le Buet or from Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval. Most parties reach the hut in 2 to 3 hours from the road. The refuge lies in open country with views across the Chaîne du Reposoir, making it a useful base for ridge walks and peaks in the 2,200–2,600m range. The terrain is straightforward—pasture and scree—with no scrambling required for the approach.
The hut sleeps 58 in dormitory rooms and serves evening meals and packed lunches. Showers are available, which is uncommon at this altitude. The guardian runs the refuge year-round, though visitor numbers drop sharply outside summer. Spring snow can block the access path until May; confirm conditions before planning a winter visit. Half board (bed, dinner, breakfast) is standard. The kitchen does not cater for special diets, so notify the hut in advance if you have allergies or dietary restrictions.
Book direct by email or phone at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August; weekends fill faster than weekdays. June and September are quieter and often more reliable for weather. The hut sits outside the national park boundaries, so FFCAM membership is not required, though a CAF membership card may offer small discounts. Check access routes in autumn and spring, as snow and thaw can change conditions rapidly.
