Refuge de Mayères
2.6About
The refuge operates year-round, though winter conditions require mountain experience and avalanche awareness. It has capacity for around 30 people in dormitory rooms. Meals are available, including evening dishes and packed lunches. Water and basic supplies are provided. The hut is unguarded in winter; you'll need to be self-sufficient. The warden manages the hut during the busier summer months. Summer is June through September. Winters are cold and snow-covered; most visitors come June to September.
Book directly with the refuge well ahead for July and August weekends. Contact them by telephone or email to confirm availability and meal requirements. The hut fills quickly during school holidays. Winter visits require advance notice and confirmation that the hut is staffed or accessible. Solo hikers should assess conditions carefully before arriving in the off-season.
