About
Refuge de Miage sits at 1564m in the Mont-Blanc massif, above the Vallée de Montjoie near Saint-Gervais. The hut is accessible year-round by car via a narrow road through the Gorges de la Diosaz, then a short walk of 10–15 minutes to the refuge. It's also reachable on foot from the Nid d'Aigle train station (90 minutes) or as part of longer treks in the Mont-Blanc region. Summer walkers use it as a base for day hikes to local tarns, ridges and scrambles across open moorland.
The refuge sleeps 70 people in shared dorms. Half-board is available year-round; meals are cooked daily and served communal-style. The kitchen is basic but reliable. There's no electricity or heating except for a wood stove in the dining room, so expect cold dormitories in shoulder seasons. Water comes from the mountain and toilets are outside. The hut operates March through October; winter closure is firm.
Book 2–3 months ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the refuge directly by email or phone—they manage bookings themselves and respond quickly. Weekday slots fill slower. Expect the hut to be busy on fair-weather Saturdays in June, July and August. Arrive before 5pm to secure a good bunk and eat with the group.
