About

Refuge de Plan Glacier sits at 2,680m on the eastern flank of Mont Blanc massif in Haute-Savoie. Reach it from the Chamonix valley via the Plan Glacier approach or from Argentière. Most parties hike 4–5 hours from the road with 1,100m elevation gain. The refuge works as a base for traverses of the Mont Blanc chain and as a staging point for Mont Blanc ascents via the Three Monts route. Snow and rockfall are present most of the year outside summer months.
The hut manages 60 beds across dormitory rooms and a few private spaces. Half-board is standard (dinner and breakfast included). Water comes from snowmelt or glacial streams. The refuge operates year-round but expect full occupancy and reduced services November–March. Winter access requires mountaineering experience and avalanche awareness. Mobile signal is unreliable. Bring your own sleeping bag or pay extra for rental linens.
Book direct by phone with the guardian. July and August fill 4–6 weeks ahead. June and September have better availability but weather is less stable. Winter ascents to Mont Blanc (April–May) create surge bookings in April. Cancellation policies are strict during peak season.
