Refuge du Fioux

Refuge du Fioux sits at 2,046m in the Chaîne du Reuil, above the Vallée Verte in Haute-Savoie. The main approach starts from the village of Morzine: follow the path via Nantaux (a steady 4–5 hours uphill). Alternatively, approach from Esserts-Salaz to the south in around 3 hours. The refuge sits on the GR5 long-distance route and serves as a natural stop for hikers traversing between the Dents du Midi and the Mont-Blanc massif approaches. The location offers direct access to the Chaîne du Reuil ridge walk, with the Pic de Nyon (2,002m) a short morning objective.
The hut is managed by FFCAM and operates from mid-June through mid-September. It has 40 beds across simple dorms and can serve around 50 people for meals. The guardian provides hot meals for guests and packed lunches on request. Water comes from a spring and toilet facilities are basic mountain standard. The refuge has no electricity or gas heating; warmth comes from a wood stove in the common room. Nights get cold at altitude even in summer, so bring a warm sleeping bag.

July and August fill quickly; aim to reserve 4–6 weeks ahead for those months. June and September are quieter. The hut can accommodate walk-ins outside peak season if space allows, but do not rely on it in midsummer.
