Refuge le Peuty

Refuge le Peuty sits at 2,000m in the Mont-Blanc massif, accessed from the Chamonix valley via the Mer de Glace approach or from Saint-Gervais. The standard approach takes 4–5 hours on foot from the valley. The hut sits on a working hiking route rather than a mountaineering objective, making it useful for breaking up longer traverses in the Haute-Savoie. Snow can block access from November to May depending on conditions.
The refuge holds 22 beds across shared dorms. Meals are provided—book dinner and breakfast when you reserve. Hot showers and flush toilets function reliably. There is no mobile signal and no WiFi. The hut is open June through September, with weekend-only service in shoulder months. Staff cook fresh food rather than relying on freeze-dried rations. Water comes from a reliable spring.
Book directly by email or phone at least one month ahead for July and August weekends. Solo hikers and small groups often find availability mid-week even in peak season. The hut is run by volunteers affiliated with the FFCAM network. Payment is in cash or by bank transfer before arrival. Check current opening dates with the guardian before planning your trip, as early season conditions can vary.
