About
Cabane de Côte-Belle sits at 1550m on the north side of Mont Grapine in the Hautes-Alpes, within Parc National des Écrins. The cabin is accessed via the Vallée de la Clarée from Névache. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours uphill from the village, following trail markers through larch forest and alpine pasture. Snow closes the access route from November through May. The hut serves as a base for summer scrambles on Mont Grapine (2413m) and traverses across the Chaîne de la Clarée.
The cabin is a simple FFCAM refuge with capacity for 12 people in basic dormitory accommodation. Meals are not prepared on-site—bring your own food and cooking equipment. The cabin has no staffed guardian and operates on an honesty-box system. Water comes from a spring nearby. There is no electricity or heating beyond a small wood stove. The season runs from June through September, weather permitting.
Book direct with FFCAM via their website or contact the Névache tourist office for current access conditions. July and August demand places by mid-June. The cabin gets light use outside peak summer months. Arrive early in the day during the season opening in June—melt conditions can render the approach impassable by afternoon.
