Cabin du Chatellerat

Hautes-Alpes, France
About
Cabane du Chatelleret sits at 2,552m on the eastern slopes of the Massif du Dévoluy, in the Hautes-Alpes. Reach it from the hamlet of Superdévoluy in 4 to 5 hours on foot, following the GR94 and waymarked paths through open meadows and sparse larch forest. The trail climbs steadily but never steeply. In winter the approach is often impassable; summer and early autumn are the only reliable seasons. This is a working summer destination, not a casual day trip.
The cabin is small and basic—expect a dormitory shelter with capacity for around 20 people and a simple cooking area. There is no guardian (gardien) and no prepared meals. Bring all food and fuel. Water comes from a spring nearby. The cabin is managed as part of the local hiking network and serves as a waypoint for multi-day treks crossing the Dévoluy massif toward the Parc National des Écrins. The simple character makes it suitable for experienced hikers comfortable with self-catering and minimal facilities.
There is no formal booking system; the cabin operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Arrive early in the day, especially on weekends. July and August are busiest. Check current access conditions and maintenance status with the local FFCAM section or the Mairie of Dévoluy before setting out, as the approach and cabin are sometimes damaged by winter weather. Bring a sleeping bag and mat.
