Refuge du Galibier
2.6About
The refuge manages 60 beds in shared dorms. Evening meals and breakfast are available—essential to book ahead for dinner. Water comes from the snowmelt stream; heating and cooking run on gas. Toilet facilities are basic but functional. The hut operates June to September; in July and August it fills by mid-afternoon most days. The location makes it a natural stopover for multi-day tours crossing the main Alpine ridge or linking the Chamonix–Zermatt circuit variants.
Book directly with the guardian in early June for July and August. Contact via the FFCAM directory or the hut's direct line. Solo hikers and small groups often find beds on arrival outside peak weeks (late June, September). Bring a torch and warm layers—evenings are cold at this elevation even in summer.
