Refuge du Mont Thabor

Refuge du Mont Thabor sits at 2,490m on the Thabor massif in the Hautes-Alpes, within striking range of the high passes that define this part of the Écrins. The main approach is from Valloire via the Col de l'Échelle trail, a 4-hour push that gains 1,100m steadily. You can also approach from the Vallée de la Guisane side via Col des ThEvins. The hut marks a crossroads for traverses and high-altitude day climbs across the range.
The refuge runs 46 beds across shared dorms and a few smaller rooms. The FFCAM team serves lunch and dinner, with vegetarian options available if you book ahead. The water comes straight from the massif. The hut operates mid-June to late September, though exact dates shift with snow conditions. Winter access is unpredictable. There's no shower, but you'll find basic washing facilities and a solar-powered charging point. The dining room doubles as the common space.
Book by calling ahead directly; peak July and August weekends fill fast. Phone contact is essential since online booking moves slowly for this hut. Aim to reserve two to three weeks ahead for July and August, though the shoulder seasons (June and September) are more flexible.
