1er Chalet de Tigneux

Refuge 1er Chalet de Tigneux sits at 1,680m in the Isère Alps, reached via the Tigneux Valley near Bourg-d'Oisans. The approach takes roughly 2 hours on foot from the road end, climbing steadily through mixed forest and open terrain. This is a working base for accessing peaks and ridges in the surrounding massif, particularly the Chaîne de Belledonne and routes into the Parc National des Écrins watershed. The hut's remote setting and modest elevation make it accessible outside peak Alpine seasons.
The refuge operates as a small private chalet with 6 beds total, run by caretakers who provide meals on request. Facilities are basic: dormitory accommodation, a common room with heating, and kitchen access. Water comes from local sources. There is no electricity or showers. The hut opens year-round but sees heaviest use June through September when snow has cleared from approach paths. Winter access requires mountaineering skills and previous arrangement with the keepers.
Contact the refuge directly well ahead of visits, especially for meal provision. Book at least 2–4 weeks in advance during summer. The hut fills quickly in July and August. Winter parties should make contact several weeks beforehand and confirm current conditions and caretaker presence. Access by private arrangement only—the refuge has no public transport connection.
